Throughout the course of this project, we studied 5 different artists. We created circle paintings in the style of Sonia Delaunay, patterns in the style of Romero Britto, abstract nature paintings inspired by Alma Woodsey Thomas, we turned ordinary letters and numbers into the extraordinary after studying Jasper Johns and finished up by action painting in the style of Jackson Pollack. Our dowels were made by rolling recycled magazine paper. Then we cut and folded our paper and fastened it together to create our pinwheel sculptures!
I am so proud of how my 2nd grader's snowmen turned out! They had a blast building their snowmen out of clay and learning how to slip and score to attach thier details. While the 3D snowmen were being fired we started our 2D snowmen landscapes. We learned about the parts of a landscape and how to create value. The results are beautiful!
4th Grade created relief sculptures by folding paper. Students were required to have at least 3 different folds and colors. I demonstrated how to create 4 different types of folds, but many students chose to create their own and go beyond the minimum requirements! Their design had to show radial symmetry by repeating folds and colors in each section. Radial balance can be a challenging thing to teach, but the students were colorfully successful!
