1st Grade was inspired by Eric Carle! We used his style to create painted papers when reviewing color mixing and value. Then we watched and listened to I See A Song by Eric Carle (click the button above) and we looked at artwork by Wassily Kandinsky, an artist inspired by music. We listened to music as we sketched lines, shapes and colors to visualize our song. The following week we referred to our sketch as we cut out our lines and shapes to build our collage. They are on display by the music room!
In connection with 4th grade's study of space in science students created their own galaxy art! We started by using a toothbrush to create our action painted starry sky. We learned how to use value to model the form of planets and how to create depth in space by arranging our planets from biggest to smallest and overlapping. This year we also included an astronaut self-portrait. The results are amazing!
